GreenPainters™ is Australia’s national sustainable painting initiative. It is a non-profit organisation that represents painting contractors and manufacturers who are leaders in painting environmental management. This innovative group of painting contractors and product manufacturers has found ways to help clean up one of the most environmentally-destructive areas of the construction and building maintenance sectors. Describing itself as ‘Australia’s national sustainable painting initiative’, GreenPainters™ is a non-profit association providing training, advice and skills to promote use of natural and low-impact ‘eco-preferable’ coatings; dramatically reduced Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), a key toxic element affecting indoor air pollution and ozone smog formation; cutting out waste, ensuring painter safety and also eliminating environmental pollution from washing paint brushes and equipment; and using heat-reducing reflective paints to help address the climate change challenge, including reducing energy use for cooling. Accredited GreenPainters™ seek out the best available technology and coating formulas, and are putting beyond-compliance environmental management into painting. They can help achieve building Green Star ratings. Done well, painting assists sustainability by prolonging the life of important structures, machines and materials. GreenPainters™ undertakes industry training, standards and policy development and consumer education initiatives.
GreenPainters™ has its own Environmental Code of Practice for members and says all products used by its members meet or exceed Australian Standards, meet the Green Star guidelines, or are certified by an internationally recognised eco-label for environmentally preferable products, such as Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA). The association itself is an associate member of GECA; and is an Ecospecifier Industry Partner (Ecospecifier was developed by RMIT and assesses products using known Australian and International standards, codes, eco-labels, Life Cycle Assessment methodologies, and Australian Green Building Rating Schemes).
The listed members on the GreenPainter™ website provide Sustainability Card holders with a FREE consultation and a cash reward of $20 for every $500 on any job quote excluding materials.
